Fuse Working Principle & Functions
Fuses are widely applied short-circuit and severe overload protection devices in power distribution networks and control systems, featuring simple construction and dependable protection performance. The industry is upgrading toward high breaking capacity, fast response, pure silver fuse elements and ceramic housings. Shuguang Fuses keeps pace with industrial development with stable performance for multi-scenario circuit protection.
A fuse mainly consists of a fuse element and insulated fuse tube/base, connected in series with the protected circuit during operation. Upon circuit short circuit, the fuse element melts instantly to cut off the circuit and safeguard connected equipment. Silver/copper fuse elements paired with high-strength ceramic tubes and quartz sand for arc extinction have become mainstream industry configuration. Adopting precision pure silver elements and high-purity quartz sand, Shuguang fuses deliver precise fusing timing, superior arc-quenching performance and enhanced safety.

Common Fuse Classifications
1. Plug-in Fuse: Applied for terminal circuits rated 380V and below. Shuguang’s tin-plated contacts resist oxidation, suitable for civil power distribution and light-load industrial equipment.
2. Screw-type Fuse: Equipped with a blown-fuse indicator on the top that pops out visibly after element rupture; high breaking current rating for circuits ≤500V & ≤200A, commonly used in machine tool electrical control circuits. Shuguang’s impact-resistant ceramic casing improves indicator sensitivity.
3. Enclosed Fuse: Divided into sand-filled and non-filled types; sand-filled variant uses internal quartz sand for outstanding breaking capacity. Shuguang’s high-purity quartz sand and optimized sealing fit harsh working conditions.
4. Ultra-fast Fuse: Designed for semiconductor rectifier protection with V-grooved silver strip elements. Shuguang products achieve millisecond-level response for photovoltaic and high-voltage DC applications.
5. Resettable Fuse: Uses metallic sodium as conductive element to limit fault current and restore conductivity automatically after fault clearance for repeated use. Shuguang’s upgraded sealing extends service life for precision power distribution systems.
Key Parameter Selection Guidelines
1. Rated voltage shall match circuit operating voltage; overvoltage operation is prohibited. Shuguang supplies full series covering 380V, 500V and other specifications.
2. Rated current must exceed the circuit’s maximum continuous operating current to avoid unnecessary nuisance blowing.
3. Rated breaking current shall surpass the prospective maximum short-circuit current to prevent fuse body breakdown.
4. Motor starting current reaches 4~8 times rated motor current; fuse elements must withstand inrush surge. Shuguang provides customized element characteristics to accommodate diverse motor operating conditions.
